The New School was founded in the spirit of progressive education, where dissenting opinions and open discussion are encouraged. Students learn under the tutelage of leaders in the arts, management, performing arts, public policy, and social sciences. Small, immersive classrooms are the site of in-depth discussions on current issues faced around the world. Students and faculty join together in taking a creative, collaborative approach to solving real-world challenges.
Students can choose from nearly 100 different degree programs as well as numerous study abroad programs in Bangalore, Berlin, Cape Town, Florence, London, and elsewhere around the world. Academic divisions include liberal arts, music, drama, jazz and contemporary music, public engagement, social research, and design. The school has also created a breadth of continuing education programs. The New School’s 4,700+ students hail from all 50 states and more than 100 different countries.
