Western Michigan University (WMU) is public research institution named one of the best national universities by U.S. News & World Report. The university helps to produce graduates who are globally engaged and discovery driven. Recognized as one of the best value universities, Western Michigan University already meets many of the performance measures called for by President Obama.
Students can pursue undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees across 240 different programs. The school has one of the largest aviation programs in the country, with more than 700 undergraduate students learning at one of the most prestigious flight science programs.
The Carnegie Foundation recognized WMU for having high research activity, with students investigating such diverse fields as atomic physics and blind rehabilitation. WMU is also home to one of the largest business schools in the country.
There are five campuses in and around Kalamazoo, covering more than 1,200 acres. The school also offers students the ability to further their education through online as well as lifelong education programs located across the state.
Students at WMU can choose from more than 300 student-led clubs, including live concerts during the annual “Bronco Bash”, as well as dozens of dozens of fraternities and sororities. Student athletes compete in the Mid-American Conference for men’s basketball, baseball, football, soccer, and tennis, as well as women’s basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, track & field, and volleyball. The men’s hockey team competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
