The University of Colorado, Denver (UCD) is the largest research institution in the state, attracting more than $375 million in research grants each year. The school offers bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and first professional degrees in 130 different programs. Its offers the only school of medicine in the state. The University of Colorado Hospital is the primary teaching hospital for the university, and cares for more than half a million patients a year.

The majority of the university’s research focuses on health sciences through the Anschultz Medical Campus, which conducts research in mass spectrometry, x-ray crystallography, electron microscopy, DNA array, and peptide protein chemistry. Designed a very high research activity university by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, the university was recognized as having a top 10 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index in the fields of biomedical sciences, developmental biology, human and medical genetics, oncology and cancer biology, structural biology, and toxicology.
