Morgan State University

Morgan State University is a public urban university with a focus on excellence in teaching, intensive research, and effective public service. Formerly known as Centenary Biblical Institute, Morgan State offers its students an inclusive and highly distinctive learning experience where they are encouraged in scholarship pursuits, stimulating research, creative endeavors, and community outreach.

Although Morgan State has among the highest number of applications from African-American high school graduates, they are welcoming to a diverse community of students. The university’s 8,000 students can earn their BA in fields such as accounting, architecture and environmental design, computer science, marketing, medical technology, music, nursing, and much more. There are also more than 30 master’s degree programs at Morgan State, which is classified as a doctoral research university.

The university is also proud of its many specialty centers in areas such as biomedical research, academic success, entrepreneurship, excellence in math and science, continuing education, health disparities, community development, and more.

At Morgan State University, many students live on campus, where they can take advantage of informal and formal get-togethers as well as community leadership opportunities. The university also competes in the Mideastern Athletic Conference. Many of its football players have been drafted by the NFL. The school’s 660,000-volume library contains an impressive collection of books and other materials that chronicle the life, history and culture of African American experiences. The university’s critically acclaimed choir performs classical, contemporary, and gospel tunes throughout the area. There are also six university bands on campus. Greek life is also a big part of life for many students at Morgan State.
